Plant Based Heat

Plant Based Heat is a 100% vegan comfort food restaurant founded in Atlanta in early 2020 and first opened its Memphis location on June 19, 2021 (Juneteenth) in the historic Orange Mound neighborhood near the University of Memphis. The restaurant, located at 669 S. Highland Street, is Black-owned and specializes in plant-based versions of traditional comfort foods, including signature vegan hot wings, jackfruit barbecue sandwiches, and sweet potato tots. Founder Ralph “RJ Groove” Johnson established Plant Based Heat with the mission to bring healthier fast food options to communities while the restaurant has also shown commitment to local youth through community initiatives.
