Aleppo Sweets
About
Aleppo Sweets is an authentic Syrian bakery and cafe located at 107 Ives Street in Providence, Rhode Island, established in 2019 by refugees Youssef Akhtarini and his family after they fled the Syrian civil war and resettled in the United States. The restaurant specializes in handmade Syrian baklava and traditional Middle Eastern fare including mezze dishes, fatayer flatbreads, kebabs, and falafel, earning recognition as one of Bon Appétit’s 50 nominees for best new restaurants in 2019. The business was made possible through a partnership with American friends and mentors who helped the Akhtarini family achieve their dream of reopening a bakery in their adopted home.
