Bread & Friends

Bread & Friends is a bakery and restaurant located in Portland’s Old Port neighborhood that specializes in naturally leavened breads, artisan pastries, and elevated sharing plates served at brunch and dinner. Founded in 2021 as a farmer’s market bakery, the business expanded to its brick-and-mortar location on Fore Street in April 2023, where it now offers coffee and tea during the day, and beer and natural wine at night. The restaurant is owned and operated by two couples—Jess Rattey and Jeremy Broucek, and Maggie and Tanner Rubin—whose mission is to foster community through delicious food meant to be shared, with recent recognition as a 2026 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef in the Northeast.
