Van Leeuwen Ice Cream
About
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is a nationally beloved scoop shop chain founded in 2008 by brothers Ben and Pete Van Leeuwen and Laura O’Neill, specializing in made-from-scratch dairy and vegan ice creams, housemade waffle cones, and creative limited-edition collaborations. The Westport location at 31 Church Lane opened in February 2025 and marks the brand’s fourth Connecticut store, representing a return home for the co-founders who are Fairfield County natives and began their ice cream entrepreneurship in 2002 with a Good Humor truck in Greenwich. The shop is known for its French-style ice cream crafted with more than double the amount of egg yolks as standard ice cream and collaborates with local creators, including Westport-based cookbook author Julia Dzafic.
